What the practice can actually do for your pet, in the building, on the day you come in.
Blue Cross sits just across the river, and what makes the short drive worth it is what happens in the building. A limp, a swallowed object, a cough that will not quit: digital X-ray is done at the practice, images are read here, and the doctor walks you through what they show before you leave. When your dog or cat needs a closer look at what is happening inside, ultrasound is handled here too, by the team that already knows your pet and holds their record.
The everyday care happens in the same building. The yearly exam, the vaccine schedule, and dental cleanings and extractions are all kept in one record, so nothing about your pet's history gets lost between visits. The details are on the wellness exams and vaccinations and dental care pages, and the full list, including end-of-life care, is on the services page.
The practice behind the equipment.
Blue Cross is owner-run. Dr. Paul Sova owns the practice, works in it, and carries on the Paterson hospital his family opened in 1942, three generations of veterinarians in one practice. There is no corporate parent and no quota deciding what gets recommended for your pet, and the team that sees your dog or cat this year is the team that remembers them next year.
Care is available in Spanish as well, and this page has a Spanish twin.
The hospital sits on Route 20, which runs right along the river between Paterson and Elmwood Park.
The Sova family has cared for pets at this Paterson practice across three generations, since 1942.
New clients from Elmwood Park are welcome. Request a time and we will call you back to schedule.
