You send a request, we call you back to set the time, and your pet becomes a known patient at the first visit. The Request an Appointment page walks through each step.
A first visit starts with a full physical exam. The doctor checks your pet over, asks about their history, their diet, and anything that has been worrying you, and puts all of it into one record. If you have paperwork from a previous vet, bring it along or have it sent over, and we will fold it into that same record so nothing gets lost.
From there, the visit follows what your pet actually needs. That might mean vaccines brought up to date, a look at a lump or a limp you mentioned, or simply a baseline so the team knows what normal looks like for your animal.
Blue Cross is owner-run, with no corporate parent and no quota steering what gets recommended. The doctor explains what your pet needs and why, you see where things stand before any treatment happens, and you decide how to proceed. If something can wait, we say so.
When you book your first visit, an $89 deposit holds the time. That $89 is the price of the office visit itself, so it goes toward your bill, never on top of it. If your plans change, it is fully refundable up to 24 hours before the appointment. It is how we keep appointment times real, so when your pet's slot comes, it is actually yours.
The practice accepts all major credit cards, and cash is welcome. If spreading out the cost of care would help, the practice also works with three outside lenders. Each plan is opened with that lender, on the lender's own terms and approval.
A health care credit card from CareCredit that can be used for veterinary care. You apply with CareCredit, and their terms apply.
Payment plans from Scratchpay built for veterinary bills. You apply with Scratchpay, and approval and terms come from them.
Payment plans from Cherry that split a bill into installments. You apply with Cherry, and their terms and approval apply.
It depends on your pet and what they need that day, so we do not quote a flat figure here. What we can promise is the order of things: the doctor explains what your pet needs and why before anything is done, and you decide how to proceed. A same-day or urgent sick visit is priced a little higher than a routine appointment.
Yes. First-time clients hold their appointment with an $89 deposit. That is the price of the office visit itself, so it goes toward your bill, and it is fully refundable up to 24 hours before the appointment.

Any records from a previous vet if you have them, a list of any medications or food your pet is on, and your questions. If you do not have records, come anyway, and we will start the record fresh. There is a printable one-page checklist if you want it on the fridge.
Yes. Care is available in Spanish. Just ask for Spanish when you call 973-881-0430.
Becoming a new client is simple. You call or send the form, we call you back to set the time and walk you through the details, and your pet gets a proper first appointment with the doctor. From that day on, your pet is a known patient at a Paterson practice the Sova family has run for decades, with one record, a steady team, and the same front door every visit. The hospital is open six days a week at 470 McLean Blvd, with digital X-ray and ultrasound done right here when answers are needed.
New clients are welcome. Send the request form and we will call you back to schedule the first visit.
